Have fun with your holiday decorating. My sprinkle-inspired tree made me want a little bit of a Willy Wonka Wonderland on the kitchen counter. So I made a cake…one that would last all season long! 

Fun Fabric Cake

What you need:
3 (different sized) styrofoam cake forms
Scraps of fabric
Scissors
Mod Podge Glue Sealer (I like a matte finish)
Paint brush
Plastic wrap
Marshmallows for decoration

What to Do: 
1. Cut Fabric Circles: Cut enough fabric circles 1-inch larger than the diameter of the styrofoam forms to cover the bottom and top of the largest form and only the top of the two smaller forms. Use scissors to make cuts along the circumference of each circle 1/2-inch in. I like to use a different coordinating fabric for each circle.
2. Attach Fabric Circles: Use a paint brush and the mod podge to attach the fabric to the form with the cut “tabs” glued to the sides (you’ll be covering them with fabric). Set aside on it’s side on a piece of plastic wrap.
3. Cut Fabric for Sides: Working with one form at a time, measure the width and circumference of your form and cut a strip of fabric that wide and 1-inch longer. Use a paint brush and mod podge to adhere the fabric to the form. Set aside on a piece of plastic wrap to dry overnight. Continue with the remaining forms.
4. Stack forms on a cake pedestal or plate and decorate with marshmallows!!

Styling a holiday turkey platter can get mundane. Even a turkey doesn’t want to wear the same look every holiday season. Here are a few of my favorite color inspired looks for this years turkey presentation. All are fun and fast and fresh!

Look 1: Persimmons Parsley and Sage. Choosing a stand alone beautiful fruit like persimmons makes your work easy.

Look 2: Kale and Pears. I love this simple green approach. The key is picking small pears and always…always cutting at least one open!

Look 3: Cranberries and Kale. Who says a turkey doesn’t need a necklace! I strung cranberries for a necklace and draped it over the bird. Filled the cavity with a pretty leaf kale (because it will hold up) and then filled the cavity with loose cranberries. So fun!

Look 4: Eggs and Rosemary. I love this hard boiled egg crown and one fun egg out of the cavity!! You could even circle the turkey with eggs, but that may be overkill.

During my seventh year, two small green “swimming turtles” lived in a pond shaped bowl on the desk in my bedroom. The turtles seemed happy to me…swimming freely around the rock mountain and sunbathing on the plastic palm tree island I had crudely crafted.

I loved those turtles.

My mom…not so much.

Every two weeks mom would march into my room and demand I clean my stinking turtle bowl before (and I quote) “the authorities come to arrest you.”

I cleaned the turtle pond as instructed by my mother because that’s what a seven year old responsible pet owner does.
I didn’t clean it because the smell bothered me, or because my turtles seemed phased by the murky water and I certainly didn’t clean it because I thought I would be arrested –even a seven year old can smell bullshit through turtle schtank.
