For this main course, I wanted to speak to the eccentricities of the city I call home, Savannah. Alex Raskin’s Antique Shop was the perfect setting. An artfully crumbling Italianate mansion, also known as the Noble Hardee house, it is piled high with remarkable finds in even more remarkable clusters. The owner, Alex Raskin, is a compulsive treasure hunter with an edge and he’s created an environment that’s both unique and archetypally ‘Savannah’. I collaborated with the existing arrangements in his shop to carve out a “secret society” of sorts: a dining area ringed by staring portraits. Creepy Cool.
What is the heck is the table wearing?: Antique Table and Chairs (Alex Raskin Antiques), Pewter Stoneware Chargers and Flatware (Juliska), Antique Pewter Plates (my own), Vintage steak knives with bakelite handle (gift from my first assistant, Joshua Grotheer…I have no idea where he got them, but I love them), Napkins (torn fabric…my thing), Glasses (plastic solo cups…because I forgot glasses and Alex had these at his desk and I thought they were better than any crystal for this table), Brass candle sticks (Alex Raskin Antiques), Hot Pink Taper Candles (Creative Candles…my new favorite candle that comes in so many electric colors)
What the heck am I wearing?: Atlas Mountain Skirt (Shabby Apple), Sweater (J.Crew)…there wasn’t time for much more.
