I. CAN’T. EVEN.
These cookies are so stinkin’ cute. The perfect dessert for any pizza party.
What you’ll need:
Prepared and Cooled Round Sugar Cookies (My recipe HERE, I made my cookies about 3 1/2 inches in diameter)
Red Royal Frosting (My recipe HERE, for “tomato sauce”)
Green Sugar Sprinkles (for “herbs in the tomato sauce”)
Cream Colored Royal Frosting (My recipe HERE, for “melted cheese” )
Cherry/Red Air Heads Candy (for “pepperoni slices”)
Mystery Flavor/White Air Heads Candy (for “not yet melted mozzarella cheese”)
Small round cookie cutter
scissors
STEP 1:
Using the red royal icing and a knife or offset spatula, spread enough to cover the bottom of the cookie in an irregular pattern and NOT going all the way to the side. Think about how red sauce looks on a pizza.
STEP 2:
While red frosting is still wet, sprinkle just a tiny bit of the green colored sugar onto the frosting. This is the “herbs” for your sauce….God, I love this cookie! Allow frosting to dry.
STEP 3:
Using a small piping bag, offset spatula or knife spread the cream colored royal frosting in an irregular pattern on the dried red frosting. Do not go all the way to the edge of the red frosting. This is your melted cheese. Do not allow to dry before next step.
STEP 4:
Use the heat from your hands to warm up the red Air Heads candy. Press the candy with your fingers to thin out a bit (it’s kind of thick) or use a small rolling pin. Your fingers will work just fine. Using a small round cookie cutter or scissors, cut out rounds from the Air Heads. These are your pepperoni slices. Make sure they are not too big for the size of your cookie.
Place the candy rounds on the still wet cream colored frosting in an irregular pattern. Think about pepperoni on a pizza. I used 3 to 4 pieces of “pepperoni” on each of my 3 1/2-inch round cookies.
STEP 5:
Using scissors, cut the white Air Head candy into small strips. They will stick together as you cut them, so only a couple of strips at a time. Randomly place the pieces over the top of the cookie. This is your not quite melted mozzarella cheese.
I love to serve them on a pizza wheel!
(Me…Hopped up on sugar)
